Netflix acquired InterPositive, Ben Affleck‘s AI-powered filmmaking startup, for approximately $587 million in cash, according to the company’s Form 10-Q filing for a deal completed in March 2026. The filing characterizes the transaction as a business combination with consideration consisting entirely of cash. Earlier reports from anonymous sources had estimated total consideration could reach up to $600 million before the filing confirmed the final figure. The deal ranks among the largest acquisitions Netflix has undertaken to date.
InterPositive was founded in 2022 and operated largely in stealth mode before the acquisition. The company built an AI-driven platform focused on postproduction workflows for film and television. Early financing came from investment firm RedBird Capital Partners, and the company employed 16 engineers, researchers, and creatives at the time of the deal. The $587 million purchase price translates to roughly ¥95 billion in Japanese currency, according to coverage of the filing.
Founded in 2022, InterPositive operated in stealth mode with just 16 staff before its $587 million acquisition.
Netflix described the acquisition as an investment in creator-led innovation, framing its strategic messaging around AI tools that assist filmmakers rather than replace them. The company stated that integrating InterPositive’s technology is expected to streamline content creation and reshape content economics within its production ecosystem.
Business and technology media characterized the transaction as a significant technology-focused acquisition, distinguishing it from earlier Netflix deals centered on intellectual property, such as the purchase of the Roald Dahl catalog.
InterPositive’s tools automate several routine and labor-intensive postproduction tasks. The platform handles wire removal and similar visual cleanup work, shot reframing, and image composition adjustments without requiring physical reshoots. The technology also supports scene relighting and background enhancement to modify visual tone and continuity in existing footage.
The company’s stated objective is to direct AI toward repetitive technical work so that crews can focus on more human-centered creative activity. Affleck developed a proprietary dataset specifically designed for controlled production environments to ensure the AI tools reflect the nuances of real filmmaking.
The acquisition expands Netflix’s in-house capabilities across visual effects, postproduction, and workflow automation through bespoke AI infrastructure. The entire InterPositive staff joined Netflix as part of the deal, with no separate team remaining outside the company. The group was integrated into Netflix’s broader production technology organization following the close of the transaction.
The deal reflects a broader strategic shift at Netflix toward building proprietary technology that supports its content pipeline at a structural level. Rather than licensing third-party tools or contracting external postproduction vendors for specific tasks, Netflix gains direct control over AI systems embedded in its filmmaking workflows.
The involvement of Ben Affleck, who co-founded InterPositive, adds a dimension of creative-industry credibility to a transaction that is otherwise technical in nature. Netflix has not disclosed specific titles or productions that will first use InterPositive’s tools following integration, but the company signaled that deployment across its production ecosystem is a near-term priority.
