As the United States seeks to accelerate transformative scientific discovery, the Genesis Mission emerges as a national AI-powered initiative focused on pressing national challenges and launched by executive order in November 2025. Architects of the Genesis Mission describe the resulting infrastructure as a national discovery “brain” that unifies simulation, data analysis, and autonomous experimentation. Beyond energy, the Genesis Mission targets discovery science challenges such as illuminating molecular dynamics, unifying data that spans scales from quarks to the cosmos, and devising new quantum algorithms and protocols.

In materials and manufacturing, research efforts focus on securing critical materials, accelerating advanced manufacturing processes, and discovering mission-ready materials that can be rapidly adapted into defense, infrastructure, and commercial applications.
